| Customer Reviews: Great value collection September 3, 2010 James F. Pringle (UK) This is a splendidly comprehensive collection at a bargain price. My only disappointment was that the printed information didn't give more information about the recordings - such as the dates. And there's no reference to much-missed broadcaster Malcolm Laycock other than in the title of the set.
Golden Age of Swing August 27, 2010 Mr. F. M. Nicolson (East Riding) The review in the Daily Telegraph indicated the music/selection was excellent.
I was disappointed. The selection was not good and overall there was a sameness to the music - not the variety and excitement promised in the review.

A great selection of music by the late Malcolm.I enjoyed his radio 2 programme enormously and am delighted to have a memento of him.Malcolm is a great loss to his family and the music world. This is the best value CD collection I ever purchased, had he any more compilations?
A GREAT BARGAIN - YES INDEED! July 17, 2009 Barry McCanna (Normandy, France) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
This low-priced 5-CD boxed set from Delta Leisure Group was released originally some years ago as a series of single CDs on the Horatio Nelson label, with the shorter banner "The Golden Age Of Swing", and had been compiled by the genial host of Radio 2's Sunday Night At Ten, who also wrote the liner notes. Each CD has a distinct theme as follows, Twenty Greatest Hits; The Late Night Album; The Great Singers; Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey; and The Jive Album. If you want the liner notes you have to download them from the website, but at the price and with a total running time of just over six hours this has to be an absolute bargain. It should appeal both as a gap-filler for established collectors, and as a starter pack for new enthusiasts, and it should sell in large numbers. I hope Bygone Days will follow it up by asking Malcolm to compile a boxed set of The Golden Age Of British Dance Bands.
Footnote: Malcolm reluctantly relinquished his role as presenter of the long-running and much-loved Radio 2 programme "Sunday Night At Ten", having been ordered to stop featuring British dance bands. That decision had generated a considerable volume of protests to the BBC, all of which were ignored. Sadly, Malcolm passed away last Sunday, the 8th November, and this handsome boxed set should serve to remind us of his boundless enthusiasm for the music.
Fantastic collection at great price April 21, 2009 C. FULLER (Birmingham, United Kingdom) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
Now packaged as a box set these 5 CDs were originally available from 1999 on the well remembered Horatio Nelson label. If you do check out on line you will find them but only as single CDs. The third party seller prices are from a few pounds up to £32.74 for a single CD! The series had the same overall title back then and that does help identify the albums.
The titles and sound quality is very good throughout. This is the perfect collection for someone wanting a varied flavour of the swing era. There is also a download available from the Delta website in the form of extensive liner notes by Malcolm Laycock.
This is another excellent offering from Delta and bearing in mind that you get all 5 CDs in one set it allows you to own definitive recordings across a wide range of big band styles for a small outlay. This could well be the bargain release of 2009.
