3 out of 5 stars Some good songs but confused   August 10, 2010
Mr. Loucas M. Nicolaides (London, UK)

The accountants in the MoS have obviously realised that's there only so many times they can put out Club Classics and Chill Out compilations, so they've now turned their attention to the 1980's.

A lot of the songs that you'd expect are on here: check New Order's Blue Monday, Soft Cell's Tainted love; and some more obscure songs such as John Spark's Underpass. It's nice to hear Driving Away from Home again too....but where is Depeche Mode? And anything from Stock Aitken and Waterman who used lots of syths?

The reason I think this compilation is confused is because it seems to vary between being a best of the decade and an attempt to explore the 80's synth music that inspired dance music. If it's trying to do the latter then it misses out some important songs such as Beat Dis, Planet Rock and Freestyle's Don't Stop The Rock.

My advice is buy the songs that your library is missing from Amazon's download service or itunes and make up your own playlist.

5 out of 5 stars Best MOS Album this decade!!   June 9, 2010
Philippa Leah
I saw the TV advertisement the other evening and it started me reminiscing about some of the best music of the 80's... I just had to buy it... The 80's were my childhood... These tracks bring back so many happy and sad memories, but overall, some of the best years of my life.

I have a lot of MOS compilations as they tended to be really good... but recently MOS had churned out some stinkers and rehashed products. Its as if they were starting to get a little bored and their sparkle was dying... but with this... MOS are back to what they do best .. The sparkle is back and this time... The Neon is in full-force, the puffball skirts are bouncing and padded shoulders are standing tall. From the vivid 80's Retro Neon packaging, 3 Discs with 60 tracks and NOT ONE unrecognisable hit... I would recommend anyone who wants to sink back into the 1980's for a few hours and rejoice at some of the best music around from that decade..

Well Worth the Money...... Now where was I .. Oh Yes... "We're the Kids in America... Ooohooo . Everybody live for the music...go round La la la!!!!! """

5 out of 5 stars Getting there.   May 13, 2010
A. J. Walker (New Zealand)
You gotta love the 80s for its music. I live in New Zealand and even over here there is a definitely a soft spot for the enduring pop sounds - with one such commercial decreeing 'music's greatest decade'

I bought this compilation expecting some flamboyant an interesting re-mixes, but instead found most tracks in their original form. This is no dissappointment, as my soul was lifted by some simply great music once again. Some obvious, some less so, but a thoroughly comprehensive rundown with some hidden gems. These include forgotten songs by Propaganda, Japan and Simple Minds who shake off their radio friendly stadium rock tag with the majestic and resonating 'New Gold Dream'

Off course a compilation of this nature would not be a complilation of this nature without glaring ommissions. Sigh, where to start, well no Kraftwork, the quintissential syn pioneers is a crime and where the hell are Depeche Mode? Where too Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and more besides. New Order, Tears for Fears, Pet Shops Boys and Ultravox all contributed more than the obvious, but nonetheless fundamental inclusions here.

One or two inclusions also raised eyebrows. God love Debbie Harry and Blondie, but they were never Electro. Shattered Dreams by Johnny Hates Jazz is one of a few songs that feel out of place. Intruiging though is the inclusion of 'Pump Up The Volume' at the very end of Disc three. Blatantly not an electro pop song, it was nonetheless groundbreaking and marked the turning point for pop music and the entire club scene.

So well done and thankyou MoS. It was clear you had fun putting together this compilation and its an enjoyable listen as always. I look forward to Part II.
