Cracking debut - but nothing like Stevie Nicks..! September 8, 2010 C. M. Longshaw (Bucks, UK) Coming from California and having blonde hair, Lissie has been widely hyped in the musical press as a new Stevie Nicks, and I must admit that this was part of the reason that I decided to check out her debut album for myself. However I must tell you that in my opinion nothing could be further from the truth...that is not to say that this album suffers from the comparison, just that it is not fair to wrongly pigeon-hole a new artist in this way when she does not sound even remotely like SN for the most part of the album and even the more rocky tracks are a far cry from Stevie's inimitable style.
In my opinion, a more accurate comparison would be with the likes of Sheryl Crowe, KT Tunstall or Amy MacDonald. Even then Lissie has her own style and tackles a number of different genre over the course of the album - 'Stranger' even sounds disconcertingly like Buddy Holly's 'Every Day'
Overall though, this is an excellent debut album and I would recommend people to give it a chance...just don't expect Stevie Nicks..!
Burning Bright September 7, 2010 Richy Rich (S.E. England) I bought this album on the strength of a preview and interview clip I'd heard on Amazon and I'm very glad I did. Lissie is refreshingly honest and removed from the 'in' crowd - which actually makes her ultra cool! Her songs are strong and beautifully performed; what agreat voice she has. I like the country element that sneaks in from time to time (not every country singer has to sound like Dolly or Tammy!), overall she harks back to singer-songwriters from 30 or more years ago but is cutting edge contemporary also; excellent!
lissie review September 4, 2010 David Massingham (UK) great album great voice and music a must buy so refreshing after all the rubbish around at the moment cant wait for next album.
Brilliant! September 1, 2010 Joey (London) I just downloaded this on the off chance today in dire need of some new music on my Ipod. It has been on loop since half nine this morning I love it that much. I had been toying downloading this for a few days as I'd not heard any of Lissie's songs before and thought she was probably one of those artists we're supposed to say we like when actually the album never gets played. The album is full of catchy songs and if you get chance, download the Cuckoo EP for her amazing version of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance!
Love Lissie! August 24, 2010 Ms. L. Lanahan So happy with this album, Lissie is an awesome muscian, songwriter and singer.
just saw her at V festival and she was amazing! even got to meet her after and she was so nice and had a chat to me even though she was so tired after all her efforts over the weekend at the two sites! this album is a definate buy, i love all the songs!
