Friggin good metal album August 21, 2010 Raddog (UK) This really is the best Ozzy has done since Ozzmosis. It surprisingly heavy for the old dog and very clever arrangements. Im a huge fan and put up with Down to Earth and some flakey gigs but this really kicks ass. Never heard double bass gallops on a Ozzy track before! Get it, you'll be stoked.
Great album, poor product - another victim of the loudness war August 20, 2010 albassmusic Great variety of songs and arrangements and the new guitarist is a breath of fresh air...so why the poor score?
Sadly the album is afflicted with brick wall limiting throughout so none of the music is able to breath, all the clever arranging gets lost in frequency cancellation which means there's no real dynamics. Nothing punches you in the gut like it should with the heavy riffs, there's no real bass in the mix other than bass drum and no proper treble either - just everything competing for space in the middle. The whole thing sounds like an mp3 rip anyway so save yourself a few quid and download the mp3 version as there's no audio quality to be gained from having the actual CD. How about a real mix for music lovers? We don't all just listen to music on mp3 players you know, it lets the whole album down and it's a shame as this is a lot more inventive than Ozzy has been for some time.
ozzy returns August 18, 2010 sean paul mccann (ireland) Ozzy osbourne is of course iconic, a God of sorts , his place in metals history is buttoned shut. The years pass by as they always do and one can ask , is ozzy the man he once was, can he rock like a new born pup anymore, is he trying too hard, a million questions-differing answers.
Ozzy in 2010 is either needed or not, if this was his last album would the world morun forever more, its hard to say but this album brings back some heavy to the sound of ozzy and gus g on guitar is very strong indeed, hooky, fuelled riffs lace through this album from time to time and will have you headbanging whether you want to or not.
The album has a very strong first half, ozzy just seems to relish where he is on this album, the songs are memorable and even the 1 or 2 lushy ballads work.
The second half of the album has highs and lows, no doubt about it, the final three tracks are far from memorable and really smack of filler and thats a shame.
Its an album that i can enjoy , but it isnt a masterpiece.
Black Rain,Part2 ? August 8, 2010 Parmanova BLADE (Sheffield) If you enjoyed and liked Ozzy's previous c.d.,'BLACK RAIN' you will do similar with this one?'Let it die' is a specific favourite track of mine on the 'SCREAM' c.d.;I don't want Ozzy ever to die.Let's have more of these albums in the future? A good stomping on the ears and you know what, when Ozzy does the melodic he's excellent;you get the Beatles influence with a hard beat. Try it.
A very good hard rock album August 7, 2010 D. Lloyd (U.K.) I know its sacrelidge, but as a metal fan of long standing, I never liked Ozzy's solo musical output as much as I felt I should. Nothing ever had the magic that his stint with Sabbath produced, and, though I bought every album out of loyalty to the guy, I always felt he had better in him than he was giving. Then he hit paydirt with 'No More Tears'. It was awesome, no filler, just wall to wall rock genius. To this day it is one of my favourite albums ever, and when subsequent albums were released over the last 2 decades, I just listened and shook my head wondering why he couldnt give us more of that quality.
This is the mindset with which I approached 'Scream', and whilst it has not hit me like No more Tears did, its pretty damn close :-) . Sure its still Ozzy sounding like Ozzy, but there is something about these songs that realy suit where his voice is at. The slower numbers are not as cloyingly sacharine as he has been prone to of late, and the heavy numbers are not a 'new' metal sound, or trying to keep up with Papa Sevenfold or Madina for my Valentine or whoever, but rather really hark back in places to Sabbath, and his new guitarist is not afraid to nod in that direction instead of swathing everything in pinch-harmonics (i love Zakk, but he could get a bit carried away IMO).
So, as a luke warm fan, I am delighted to say this is a red hot album :-)
