The Puch Bowl, Freedom Fields, Kitty Jay, Poor Man's Heaven and now Hearts and Minds. Reflecting on Seth Lakeman's output and listening to it in chronological order, you can hear how he has evolved into the truly great musician and songwriter that has produced this latest offering. Sure, there's a shift from the story telling to a more personal and emotional depth to his work, but this, I believe, has resulted in a greater maturity and harder edge to the man. I have enjoyed, to a greater and lesser extent, all the music Seth has released so far and with Hearts and Minds he has not disappointed me. There isn't a track that I can find fault with and, having bought the limited edition, I found the bonus DVD awe-inspiring.Do not be discouraged by the shift in musical attitude, Hearts and Minds is one of the strongest pieces of work produced by Seth Lakeman so far that sits well with the rest of his discography. I thoroughly recommend it.

The special edition is very good value as it includes a dvd showing live outdoor concert at the Minack in a very picturesque part of Cornwall in addition to the cd.
There are some new songs aswell as many of Seth's regular songs all superbly played as always.

Great new cd from Lakeman, but I bought it for the DVD that comes along with the limited edition. It's a sort of greatest hits concert from the Minack Theatre, which is absolutly outstanding. The DVD alone is well worth the money, and to get the new cd at the same time is just great.

Seth Lakeman has done it again with Hearts and Minds. Here is yet another corker of an album. It was great to get the DVD of his concert at the Minnack included. Beautifully filmed it really captured the excitement of a great event. It's would be worth the extra if it were only for the virtuoso performance of Kitty Jay, but the quality of sound and vision makes for a great concert at home experience. If you're thinking of buying the album and do not already posses the concert DVD go for the limited edition while it lasts. Seth like folk performers before him is going to be around for quite some time. Astonishing.

Seth's new album is only a bit more than ok.
Though undoubtedly there's lot of foot and finger tapping stuff here, that raw intensity and drama isn't.
This young man is a tremendous talent, and should be well capable of producing an album much better than this.
