Tired Pony - A return to great organic music September 1, 2010 Melt I'm a big fan of Gary Lightbody's music writing. What can I say the man moves me. That he and his mates started the band Tired Pony with budding relationships, a couple takes per song and not a lot of massaging seemed brave to me.
To each his own.
But WOW! What a great CD..."The Place We Ran From". Soulful and full of visions one conjures looking at a cloud laced sky or starry night. I love it and frequently just keep it on a loop.
I have my ticket to the LA show Oct 4th and can't freekin' wait.
Tired Pony August 30, 2010 biko some of the music is very folky but the voice of Gary from Snowpatrol comes through on a couple of tracks.Worth listening to
In need of an Editor August 30, 2010 Young Offender (Westbury, Wilts) Despite the other names on board, this is all too obviously a Gary Lightbody record. Songs that start off at an intriguing slow-burn, but then either take the same two-line melody and repeat if for four minutes, or 'develop' to a lumpenly uninspired chorus - just like most of Snow Patrol, then. Striving for a hypnotic, hymnal refrain, many of these tracks sound like the kind of modern worship songs that get played in happy-clappy churches - lyrics and tunes larded with banality. The only redeeming moment is The Good Book, wherein Tom from Editors puts in his finest vocal to date on a song that finally carries some emotional heft.
Same old same old! August 29, 2010 Arthur Dooley (N Wales) This is all very competent and polished but at the same time it's just so average!.Apparently Tired Pony are a super group of sorts made up of members of Snow Patrol,Belle & Sebastian and REM....and it shows. Offering country tinged AOR,the band churns out a predictable range of so-so tracks which mine their soft Indie Pop roots, going nowhere new but rather around in circles.
It's not bad. OK for having on in the background as driving music, although after saying that, perhaps it's not a good idea having this as a driving record.....you might nod off !!!
sensational first album August 23, 2010 CHELSEA This first album "The place we ran from" from Tired Pony is just brilliant ! fantastic group of musicians including the guy that plays the saw ! .. and of course Gary Lightbody on vocals .. can't go wrong !
