thank you reviewers! August 19, 2010 Mike Hunt (Bath UK) I was debating whether to get this album, then I read the reviews and they convinced me to buy it. Bit of a gamble as reviewers sometimes get a little carried away, but it has paid off, as it has not been off my stereo since I got it. interesting textured pop with a disinctive vocal. Off to get the debut album on my next pay day!!

This is a great album, cross between Indie and Pop, go and see them live, I can listen to this album all day.

Second album from Simon Aldred, one of the very best lyricists in pop culture, and his band does not disappoint. From stand-out opener 'We Sleep On Stones' through essential single 'Kissing Strangers', the outstanding 'My God Betrays' to closer 'Strays At The Pond', there isn't a lot of fast-forward fodder, every track revealing subtle extra nuances on repeated listening, thanks to the brilliantly coherent production from regular collaborator Dan Austin.
My only reservation is that is doesn't move far enough away from the territory of the excellent debut album, some tracks sounding uncannily familiar.
BUY IT! August 5, 2010 rincewind (ankmorpok) If you buy one album in 2010 make it this one.
It has everything.Songwriting talent like this does not come along very often.Deep lyrics, melody, production, arrangements, strings, guitar and a voice to die for. This recording will not be matched for a very long time..More...more,more.I have not stopped playing it.
Another Great Album July 22, 2010 C. Treen (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought Cherry Ghosts first album, A Thirst For Romance back in November 2007 and although I thought the singles Mathematics and People Help The People were great it took me a few plays to fully appreciate the album. Once I did, the album was on constant repeat. The tracks had a slight tinge of country to them and although the lyrics were sometimes quite dark, it also had a certain warmth about it and the songs were uplifting and euphoric.
"Beneath This Burning Shoreline" is not exactly the same as the last album and I would be dissapointed if it was as this would show that they had become stale. However, they have returned with a more experienced and mature feel about them that shows a band that has great focus on there own sound. Yes, there are the odd one or two tracks that will clearly be singles and yes there are the tracks that need to be played several times for you to click with, but this only adds to the slow burner appeal of what is a fantastic album. Once the tracks have been aired a few times they become another set of essential listening.
In other words.....If you fell for their first album then you won't be disappointed as with many other awkward 2nd album releases.
They're playing live around October and I can't wait to see them for the first time.
